President Trump Speaks at Sparrows Point

Baltimore once built ships that made Britain come looking for a fight

Baltimore's shipyards armed the privateers that preyed on British commerce during the War of 1812. Britain came for Baltimore. Fort McHenry refused to fall. The flag was still flying at dawn, and from that battle came the words that became The Star-Spangled Banner.

Two centuries later, the furnaces of Bethlehem Steel are gone and Sparrows Point bears the scars of industrial decline.

But America is building there again.

President Trump announced Arsenal-2: $3.7 billion from Anduril and a Navy contract worth up to $2.9 billion to expand production of Virginia-class submarine components.

From privateers to submarines.
From Fort McHenry to Sparrows Point.
 From Bethlehem's ashes to Arsenal-2.

Baltimore was not born to manage decline.

It's time that we wrestle it away from those that have let it decline.

Baltimore was born to build.
