The Baltimore City Republican Party recognized recent high school graduate Parker Jensen at its 2025 Lincoln Reagan Douglass Dinner last Friday night as its "Young Patriot of the Year."
Earlier in 2025, Parker had asked school officials why the classrooms in his Baltimore County public school failed to display American flags. His inquiries were repeatedly ignored. When he visited county school headquarters to pose the same question, he was confronted by county police officers and charged with trespassing and other offenses. His participation in his graduation ceremony and senior prom were jeopardized. Parker and his family obtained an attorney, brought suit against the county, and subsequently received an undisclosed settlement.
We honor the courage of a young man who faced down an uncaring bureaucracy that first ignored him and then tried to suppress his right to ask questions. We need more Parker Jensens. It's not surprising that Mr. Jensen will soon join other young patriots at the Marine Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina, where he'll attend basic training. He has earned our admiration and we wish him good fortune.
